Artist's Comments
Thanks to a few who all took the time to give me valuable critiques and suggestions. The photo you are viewing is the finsihed sketch. Yes I even changed the title, another good suggestion from a friend. I am much happier and content about this sketch now. It is fixed and now done ready for sale! Any Buyers out there, I could use the money right now!
Charcoal Comments
Very nice, especially for charcoal. The cowboy's denim coat looks absolutely awesome! As far as critique goes, the horse head seems to lack definition compared to the rest of the drawing. His jaw isn't really there and neither are his nostrils. And maybe it's my eyes but it seems the knot on the bridle is shoved to the side too much for the desired perspective.

If it were MY drawing, the thing I would work on is more detail in the horse, such as the horse's hair, eyelashes, maybe darker shadows throughout the drawing for more depth and "pop".
It really is a FINE drawing as it is. -- Someday, I'll do this for a living! great job, and I love the composition! The warmth between the cowboy and his horse is captured beautifully! so is the detail
I sense there is something that you feel could have been rendered more accurately (from your artist comment) so if this were my drawing, I'd take a closer look at your photo reference of the horse. His eye is liquid and would have some kind of reflection that defines its shape a bit better. Also under the horse's jaw and muzzle and nostril area, I'm betting there's more that should define this area. Think of it as sculpting, but with your pencil, defining the shape with very subtle shading by comparing values (light vs dark). The cowboy's jean jacket is probably a little darker than his skin color. all in all, an excellent drawing! -- Mans evolution consists in the process of changing to forms that are not of this world. I really apprecaited it. It is exactly what I needed to know. I am working on some adjustments according to your suggestions and others. Again thank you very much!
